Profile
Grey Ghost Farm is a small family farm near Savona, British Columbia. We provide naturally raised lamb and produce.
We mostly raise South African Dorpers, mixed in with a few commercial ewes. The Dorper sheep was bred by the Department of Agriculture of South Africa when they crossed a Dorset Horn Ram and Blackhead Persian ewes. From this humble beginning, the breed proved itself as hardy mutton sheep with a top quality, minimal-fat carcass at a relatively early age and the most sought after sheepskin in the world.
Known primarily for their fertility, hardiness, and long breeding season, the Dorper are a great sustainable farm breed. They’re exceptionally adaptable to various climates and environments; at our farm, the lambs grow well, in part because of the ewes’ excellent mothering skills and milk production.
