Hertel Meats started as a small business back in 1963. A small family enterprise that provided slaughter, cutting and wrapping and further processing of beef, pork and game for local farmers and hunters. Within 10 years, a major plant expansion was completed to keep up with the growing demand. The facility was operating under the strict guidelines of the Canadian Federal Inspection Agency providing full-time employment for many local people, some of whom, along with family members, are still employed at the plant. Strong growth continued and in 1980, Tom and his wife Helena established Hertel Meats as a limited company. While no longer a slaughter facility, Hertel Meats continues to produce some of the finest bacon, sausage, salamis and smoked products on the island. We take pride in providing a premium local product and are continuously adding new products to our catalogue.
